In health care, current skills are the foundation of safe care. For nurses in Massachusetts, continuing education is a licence condition; for home-health and personal-care aides, first aid and CPR come with the qualifying training and are widely required by employers. Here is what applies to your role, and how recognized, up-to-date, documented training meets it.

Nurses in Massachusetts are licensed and overseen by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing, which requires 15 contact hours per two-year renewal cycle, including one hour on sexual and domestic violence. Activities must be relevant to nursing practice.
Under 244 CMR (the Board's regulations) and its standards of conduct, a nurse must maintain competence and be able to act in an emergency. Basic life support (BLS) is, in practice, an employer and hospital requirement rather than a licence condition — a credential most clinical roles must hold and keep valid.
Massachusetts requires 15 contact hours per two-year cycle (including one hour on sexual/domestic violence). Under 245 CMR 4.00 the Board counts contact hours from approved CE providers, so an approved CPR, ACLS or PALS course awarding contact hours can contribute; a plain BLS provider card is not itself CE.

For aides, Massachusetts sets no state-wide CPR mandate, but PHCAST and home-health-aide training programs provide CPR and first-aid certification, and employers commonly require it. A recognized, current first-aid and CPR certificate documents that competency and, where an employer requires it, must be kept valid to remain eligible for the work.
